Educators, especially those at the beginning of their teaching careers, are greatly impacted by the lingering effects of the pandemic, inflation, and living in a high cost-of-living area.

According to recent studies, up to 90% of teachers in the U.S. pay out of pocket for basic supplies needed to bring their lessons to life.

We want to help the newest generation of teachers set their classrooms and their students up for success – and that’s why we created the New Teacher Supply Fund!

Apply for a New Teacher Supply Grant!

The New Teacher Supply Fund is a pilot mini-grant program for the 2024-25 school year granting applicable new teachers at Oakland public schools up to $500 to use towards classroom supplies like copy paper, art materials, room decorations, snacks and incentives, and more. Applications for the 2024-25 school year have closed.

I struggle to keep up with all the materials students need which causes me to forget about the nice little things like classroom decorations! Also, it's expensive. My school helps a lot, but there's always more that's needed and I could use the support.

Teachers are willing to apply for grants and any funding would be helpful. Teachers almost always spend money out of their own pocket without getting reimbursed. These programs would be very helpful.

“This grant would really help me provide snacks for students without constantly worrying about paying out of pocket which is expensive.”

[With enough funding,] I would make sure all kids had the supplies they need. My classroom would be fully stocked. I would do all of the hands on projects I possibly could - those are the most impactful.
