Keeping Oakland Students Safely Engaged During the Pandemic
Our Community Wellness & Learning Hubs Initiative supports educators, families, and nonprofit organizations to provide intensive academic and personal wellness services to Oakland students and families through in-person and remote Learning Hubs.
In partnership with 13 nonprofit agencies and the Oakland Unified School District, our goal is to provide over 1000 students from low-income families, many of whom are unhoused, undocumented, and/or in foster care, with additional academic, enrichment, and mental health services during the pandemic.
School Communities Served
Some of our Learning Hubs support students from multiple school communities across Oakland. We have also helped launch Learning Hubs in partnership with the following schools (some on school sites, others at sites in the community) with more school partnerships in development for Spring 2021.
- Brookfield Elementary School
- Castlemont High School
- Coliseum College Prep Academy Middle/High School
- Fremont High School
- Frick Middle School
- Fruitvale Elementary School
- Hoover Elementary School
- Melrose Leadership Academy
- MLK Elementary School
- Prescott Elementary School
- Roosevelt Middle School
- Sankofa United Elementary School
- Sequoia Elementary School
- Urban Promise Academy Middle School
- United for Success Academy
- West Oakland Middle Schools
Outdoor Learning Spaces
We are partnering with OUSD to open 35+ outdoor learning classrooms at school campuses across the district. These will provide immediate benefits to Hubs operating at school sites, and can be used as students eventually return to in-person learning.
