The Oakland Public Education Fund (the Ed Fund) presents the inaugural Oakland Grown: Student Arts & Music Festival on Saturday, October 19 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. Hosted at the Oakland Museum of California, tickets include museum admission and performances by talented Oakland students, visual arts displays, art activities, and an exciting headliner soon to be announced!
The Ed Fund is partnering with the Oakland Unified School District Office of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) to produce this family-friendly festival and raise critical funds to support fine arts and other educational programs for Oakland public school students.
“Numerous studies demonstrate that students engaged in the arts have higher cognitive abilities, better social acclamation, increased earning potential, and higher test scores—the list just goes on and on,” said Randy Porter, a veteran music teacher at Roosevelt Middle School.
“We’re bringing the community together for this fun, new festival that supports our students,” said Ali Medina, Ed Fund Executive Director. “We’ve previously hosted gala fundraisers but decided this year to bring the community together in a meaningful and inclusive way. The Oakland Museum is accessible to everyone, making it possible for more people to attend and enjoy a day of community with our students, teachers, and their families.”
