Most people probably don’t think about the time, energy, and resources it takes to run a nonprofit. Or how much time those necessary administrative tasks can divert from an organization’s mission and goals–especially for small programs that lack the capacity to do these tasks efficiently.
Tasks like payroll and benefits management, accounting, researching and purchasing insurance, finding an attorney, and detailed reporting may not be glamorous on the surface—but someone’s gotta do them!
That’s why part of the Ed Fund’s mission is to offer fiscal sponsorship to initiatives and projects that help improve outcomes for Oakland kids, taking some of these “paper pushing” tasks off their plates so they can focus on what they do best.
Like our more forward-facing programs such as TechLink, the A to Z Fund, Oakland School Volunteers, and a host of other educational projects and partnerships, our fiscal sponsorship program supports educational efforts in the greater Oakland community by reducing the administrative load on grassroots initiatives.
We manage those administrative responsibilities for myriad local partners, from OUSD to the new Bay Area Hip Hop Archives, a collaborative legacy project between Oakland-based Hip Hop artist Jahi and the Bay Area Hip Hop and educational community.

As a fiscal sponsor, we don’t fundraise or apply for grants; those tasks belong to the organizations we work with in this capacity. We do, however, hold the fiduciary and legal responsibility for a project or organization–which means our support is also a “vouch” for them when applying for external funds.
We are proud to share our 20 years of experience and our team’s capacity to support education inside the classroom and beyond— into the greater community.
We’re committed to incubating a wide range of opportunities whose missions are woven into the fabric of our own: to lead the development of community resources to invest in Oakland public schools so all students can learn, grow, and thrive!
