At Lodestar Community Charter School, children have the time of their lives in their community garden where they get to explore, create, and learn about their garden and how to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
With Lodestar located in the heart of Fruitvale, students rarely get to experience the joy and beauty of nature. However, thanks to an Ed Fund A-Z Fund mini-grant, students and their teachers were able to transform an unused space into Lodestar’s new community garden, which serves as a fun and safe space for students to work with and experience nature firsthand.
Not only will this garden produce fresh, organic food, it also gives students a chance to get hands on, creative, and becomes a different and interesting learning experience. As part of the Lodestar Extended Day Program, which offers enrichment and support for students after the instructional day, the garden benefits over 300 students and opens them up to new opportunities and possibilities at every turn.
Make a gift to our A-Z Fund here to improve our community and help give new opportunities and experiences like this to our Oakland youth! You’ll join hundreds of others who choose to invest in getting our Oakland students inspired and engaged in and out of the classroom. Thank you!
